Leaving the Nest

We do not base our puppies' readiness to go to their forever homes by age alone. That being said,
puppies need to be at least 7 weeks old, but more importantly they need to have passed their critical
milestones:

  1. Puppies need to be able to self-soothe. They need to be ok with being alone, sleeping alone
sometimes (away from mom and other puppies in our kindergarten).
  2. Puppies must go to food and water independently, not just when mom and other pups go.
  3. Puppies need to be confident, active, alert, and eager to learn new things. They show us
when they are ready to go on into the big world!

Finding Poodle Place

We are located at 39 Poodle Place near Riverton, WY, but for added convenience, we are happy to arrange a pickup in Rawlins or Casper, WY. If you need further assistance with transport, we can help connect you with a puppy nanny to bring your new baby safely to you. Please note that we no longer ship puppies as cargo on airlines. We offer both ground and air transport for puppies at the buyers expense.

Puppy Kits

We’re thrilled to send each of our puppies home with everything they need to begin their new life with you! On take-home day, your puppy will come freshly bathed, with sanitary trim and clipped nails and, if desired, a typical poodle trim, including a clean face, feet, and poodle tail. Your puppy will need to be groomed again in 3 to 4 weeks. If you are interested, we would be happy to provide a “how-to” grooming DVD from Muddy Creek Grooming to help keep your poodle looking its best.

All puppies have received their first set of vaccines and multiple de-worming treatments, and you will receive their health records detailing the date, type of vaccinations, and de-worming schedule in the puppy kit. A single five-way puppy shot has been administered, with a repeat needed in 30 days.

To make your puppy’s transition smoother, we’ve included a blanket, toy, and chewie with familiar scents from momma and their siblings. Your puppy kit also includes a sample of "Royal Canin Mom and Baby" dog food, the same high-quality tiny kibble we feed our puppies, which we recommend mixing 50/50 with your chosen food. Keeping them on high-quality puppy food until their first birthday supports both cognitive and physical development. Due to their small size, toy breeds need to eat frequently, so please make sure they have several meals daily for the first few weeks to maintain stable blood sugar. For added support, having Nutrical or dark Karo syrup on hand can help if your puppy ever needs a quick energy boost (for more information about hypoglycemia or low blood sugar in puppies, please see our Safety & Wellness page).

Traveling Home

On your way home, if the puppy needs a potty break please do not let your baby out on to any ground that another animal could have been on that may expose them to disease. Either use artificial turf, or go to a place like a church or a school to let the puppy potty, avoiding areas like gas stations, motels, and fast-food restaurants. Keep up this practice until your puppy has had all vaccinations. When our puppies leave here, they have a head start on potty training using artificial grass. We get this grass in rolls from Walmart.com and use it placed in a boot tray. If you need a web link to find it, please let me know.
